Contest Rules

  1. Foreign exchange students from a francophone region, students from a home where French is spoken, or who have lived in a French speaking country at least one semester, may participate ONLY in the following:
    • vocal music, instrumental music, dance, sight reading, poetry recitation and poster contests.  If you have questions about the eligibility of a student, please contact Amy Berry at Greencastle High School: aberry@greencastle.k12.in.us.
  2. A student may enter only one contest per session.
  3. Participants, except accompanists in vocal and instrumental music, must be either currently enrolled in French or have been in a semester block schedule. Accompanists are not judged, nor listed as such on the registration form.
  4. Vocal music must be memorized, but the accompanist is permitted sheet music. Absent an accompanist, students can sing a cappella or use a recording of the accompanist version. In the past, students have played the recording on their phones or with bluetooth speakers.
  5. Students must participate at their level of instruction: level 1, level 2, level 3, level 4+.
  6. Fees must be paid at the time of registration. There is no on-site registration.
  7. A substitution of one student for another may be made if:
    • The substitution is already registered to participate in the overall contest, but not within the same session and the change is communicated through email to the registrar by December 13, 2024, no later.
    • there is an ill/absent student the day-of which prohibits a group from participating can substitute a single student who is already registered.
      • Example: A dance group, musical ensemble, or non-stop conversation pair has an ill/absent participant
  8. Because of time constraints, schools may only register students in either solo or ensemble vocal performances and in either solo or ensemble instrument performances. This means that if a school registers a student for a solo vocal performance, they cannot register students for an ensemble vocal performance and vice versa. This applies the same way to the instrumental contests.
